To be a woman-to be loved, loathed, sheltered, shunned, worshiped, feared, sexualized, objectified, gratified, brutalized, glorified, silenced, empowered... With a startling lyrical clarity, Amber Decker helps us navigate the road that twists endlessly through the forest of womanhood, illuminating the mystery and the duality of growing up female and what it means to form relationships as a woman, to love and be loved, to fantasize, to have the heart shattered and to rise up from the ashes once more like the phoenix, stronger than before and without so much as a hair out of place, all while struggling to find a place in this world and, quite possibly, in the next.

Lost Girls eBook Amber Decker

The ease and exhilaration of getting lost in Decker's world soon made me realise that these girls, archetypes of a women's psyche, are not all vulnerable and seeking help;
Some of them are sirens, hunters of men who are making their way through Decker's imagination, that come to life especially in her poems "Sick With This" and "Hurry".

Decker is able to seamlessly combine fairy legend and mythical characters within her modern narrative to capture the essence and duality of women.
These stark transitions are applied as deftly as a vixen's lipstick brush, where fantasies played out in "Girl in a cafe" then become the innocent and almost contradictory confessions of a broken-hearted girl in "Sunsets Were Made" only to then be transfigured into the feministic defiance of "You Split" and "Stupid Girl".

Within this eclectic collection, Decker's pieces dedicated to her family are some of her most tender and touching moments.

My favourites are "Advice For My Unborn Daughter", "Ground Zero" and "Slamming Doors" but there is much to be enjoyed because Lost Girls is truly an accomplished collection of prose.

Lost Girls eBook Amber Decker Reviews

The poems in this book are beautiful and haunting; any young girl or woman who has been initiated into the mysteries, joys and terrors of love will be able to relate to the accessible language and vivid imagery of Amber's writing. Her use of rhyme is smart; her rhythm compelling. I'd read anything she writes! The Lizard Thieves Love Poems
Beautifully worded. The emotions behind each poem pulls you in. Making you feel like this was written just for you and that it could be your life she is speaking of.
